Forbes recently released a list of the top shoes for plantar fasciitis. While all Podiatrists and foot doctors have varying opinions, there are many shoes on the list that we agree with.
What Kind of Shoes Do I Look For To Help With Plantar Fasciitis?
- Supportive outer soles on the shoes (ones that you can not bend in half)
- Supportive heel counter (the area in the back of the shoe)
- The presence of a heel counter in your shoes (absence of a heel counter (ie backless sandals) will alter gait and can lead to new foot problems
- Adjustable tightness of the shoe (laces, velcro, etc) to ensure proper shoe fitting
- Removable inserts (so you can replace them with OTC orthotics or custom orthotics)
What Should I Avoid When Looking For Shoes and Orthtoics for Plantar Fasciitis?
- Avoid anywhere charging you hundreds of dollars for over-the-counter shoes or orthtoics! (if you're paying hundreds of dollars, you should look into real custom orthtoics that take a few weeks to make)
- Avoid any shoes that you can bend in half
- Avoid flip flops
- Avoid going barefoot
- Avoid backless shoes
- Avoid high heels
